At Body Mechanix, every bodywork session is tailored to your individual needs. In addition to hands-on massage techniques, your therapist may incorporate cupping therapy, kinesiology taping or soft tissue tools to help address areas of tension, discomfort or limited mobility.
These complementary modalities may be used during your bodywork session when suggested by your therapist or requested by you. Your therapist will discuss the technique with you and determine whether it is appropriate for your needs and goals.
Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy uses specialized cups placed on the skin to create gentle suction. The cups may remain stationary for several minutes or be moved across a specific area. This lifting action offers a different approach from the downward pressure traditionally used during massage.
Cupping may help:
- Ease muscle tension and stiffness
- Support circulation in the treated area
- Promote relaxation
- Address areas of muscular discomfort
- Support mobility and recovery
Temporary redness or circular marks may appear following cupping and can vary from person to person. All Body Mechanix therapists can incorporate cupping into a massage session. Learn about cupping therapy
Kinesiology Taping with RockTape
RockTape is a therapeutic kinesiology tape that may be applied to the body to support muscles and joints without significantly restricting movement. Depending on your needs, your therapist may recommend taping following hands-on bodywork to provide continued support after your appointment.
Kinesiology taping may be helpful for concerns such as:
- Muscle strains and overuse
- Ankle or joint support
- Plantar fasciitis
- Shin splints
- Tennis or golfer’s elbow
- Shoulder and rotator cuff discomfort
- Lower-back discomfort
- Swelling and muscle fatigue
Several members of the Body Mechanix team have completed basic or advanced RockTape training. Learn about kinesiology taping
Soft Tissue Tools
Soft tissue mobilization tools, also called myofascial blades or Rock Blades, allow your therapist to apply controlled pressure to muscles, fascia and other soft tissues. This technique is known as instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, or IASTM.
Soft tissue tools may help:
- Reduce muscle tension and stiffness
- Address scar tissue, adhesions and fascial restrictions
- Improve flexibility and range of motion
- Target trigger points and areas of discomfort
- Support recovery from repetitive movement or physical activity
- Provide focused pressure during deeper bodywork
Your therapist can adjust the amount of pressure and the area treated based on your comfort and goals. Learn about soft tissue tools.
Personalized Support During Your Session
You do not need to know which modality is right for you before your appointment. Your therapist will listen to your concerns, assess how your body is responding and recommend techniques that may complement your massage or bodywork session. You are also welcome to request a particular modality when booking or speak with your therapist about it at the beginning of your appointment.
Cupping, kinesiology taping and soft tissue tools are offered as complementary additions to your massage session at no additional cost.
